The Company
Commedia of Errors is an independent theatre company based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The company was first founded by Benjamin Gould in London in 2013. Beginning with Commedia adaptations of classic stories, we made physical, comic and highly energetic theatre. Upon moving back to Northern Ireland in 2014, Commedia’s production of Irish myth ‘The Tain’ hit home in style, with two runs in Belfast arts venues, a tour of theatres and schools across NI and a critically acclaimed debut in Milan’s International Arts Festival.
Since then Commedia has been going from strength to strength. Presenting comic-adaptations, dramatic new writing, and pushing the limits of physical theatre. We are committed to testing new ways to deliver unique, exciting work to our cherished audiences. With three strands to our work we focus on: theatre productions, work for older audiences and exploring new technologies within live performance.
Alongside theatre work Commedia are dedicated to connecting with the community around them. From schools workshops, rehabilitation programmes and their work for older people, we aim to enrich and inspire the people of Northern Ireland with the power of live-performance.
