The Gap Year Returns!

Back by popular demand after its smash-hit debut in 2022, The Gap Year is ready to bring audiences on another heartwarming and hilarious journey. This side-splitting comedy follows the unforgettable adventures of three lifelong friends – Kate, Roisin, and Oonagh – who are proving that life truly begins at 60! The play is written by Commedia of Error’s own Clare McMahon, and she’ll also be acting in this run! Also from the Commedia team, Artistic Director Benjamin Gould will be directing this production for a second time. The Commedia of Error’s team are so proud of Clare and Ben for getting this hilarious and impactful play picked up again for a second run in the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, as a Lyric Theatre production.

The plot follows newly widowed Kate, childminder extraordinaire Roisin, and their free-spirited best friend Oonagh who decide it’s time to shake things up. Inspired by their children’s wanderlust, the trio embarks on their very own “gap year.” But forget Thailand, Europe, or Australia – they’re staying closer to home and exploring every single county in Ireland. With castles to see, coffee to sip, and craic to be had, these three women are setting out on the adventure of a lifetime, discovering both new places and new sides of themselves.

The incredible cast is back! Carol Moore, Marion O'Dwyer, and Libby Smyth reprise their roles as Kate, Oonagh, and Roisin after receiving rave reviews for their performances in the 2022 debut run of The Gap Year.

The Gap Year will run from Saturday, 1st February to Sunday, 2nd March 2025, so don’t miss your chance to catch this comedic gem!

On Wednesday, 19th February, The Lyric are hosting a special Gala Performance of The Gap Year. All tickets purchased for this performance will go towards funding our vital work in the community and with young people.

So come along and join us for a night of comedy, camaraderie, and celebration – because it’s never too late to embrace adventure.

Don’t miss The Gap Year! Secure your tickets now at Lyrictheatre.co.uk and get ready to laugh, cry, and cheer for these three extraordinary women on their journey across Ireland.
